Meet Gabriella Pomare — lawyer, mother, and author transforming the way families separate and co-parent. Discover the story behind The Collaborative Co-Parent.

GABRIELLA POMARE

Gabriella Pomare is a family lawyer, award-winning author, and co-parenting advocate who has dedicated her career to guiding families through separation with dignity and clarity. She studied law and journalism at UNSW Sydney and completed part of her legal studies at Columbia Law School in New York before being admitted as a lawyer in Australia.

With over a decade of experience focusing exclusively on family law, Gabriella is a Partner at The Norton Law Group Family Lawyers in Sydney. She has handled complex parenting and property disputes, including international relocation cases, high-net-worth matters, and issues involving family violence. Her leadership and impact in the profession have been recognized through nominations and awards, including the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards and Women in Law Awards.

Her debut book, The Collaborative Co-Parent (Morgan James, 2025), has already gained international acclaim, being named a Distinguished Favorite in the Parenting category of the 2025 NYC Big Book Awards and a finalist in the 2025 ABLE Book Awards. Blending her professional expertise with her personal journey as a separated parent, Gabriella’s book serves as a practical guide on how to co-parent effectively. It offers a roadmap for parents seeking to put their children at the center, not in the middle, of family restructuring. With tools, strategies, and lived experience woven throughout, the book empowers parents to reduce conflict, communicate more effectively, and embrace resilience in the face of change.

Gabriella is also a sought-after media commentator, with appearances on TODAY, FOX, Good Day Atlanta, CT Buzz, ABC10’s Your California Life, and more. Through her legal practice, public speaking, and her platform The Collaborative Co-Parent, she is leading a global movement to reframe separation—not as the breakdown of a family, but as the creation of a new one with new rules. Her mission is to ensure that every child of separated parents grows up knowing they were always put first.

When she’s not in court or on camera, Gabriella is home in Sydney — balancing motherhood, law, writing, and purpose. Her children inspire her every day to keep transforming the narrative of separation: from conflict to connection.

"The Collaborative Co-Parent was born from the rawest parts of my own life and the hundreds of families I’ve worked with as a family lawyer. When I separated, I woke up every morning with that sinking feeling—wondering, is this really my new life? Am I going to be alone forever? And then I’d hear my little boy’s voice calling out ‘mamma,’ and I knew—this wasn’t about me anymore. It was about protecting him.

Professionally, I had already seen too many children dragged into the crossfire of divorce—kids becoming messengers, referees, or emotional caretakers of their parents. I saw the damage hostility leaves behind. But I also saw the difference when parents chose a different path—when they said: our relationship may be over, but our family isn’t. This is why I emphasize the importance of co-parenting effectively; it’s crucial to shield children from conflict.

My goals are big but clear. I want to change the way society views separation and co-parenting. Too often the narrative is one of destruction, bitterness, and lifelong animosity. I want to rewrite that script, to show that while separation is painful, it can also be a turning point toward healthier boundaries, stronger self-identity, and a better life for children. I want my work, my book, and my media voice to spark conversations at dinner tables, in courtrooms, and on morning shows across the world, fostering discussions on how to co-parent successfully.

I am unapologetically ambitious in this space because I believe children of divorce deserve more. They deserve parents who know how to communicate, who understand that conflict steals their childhood, and who are willing to do the hard work of showing up differently. I believe that one child’s experience of their parents’ divorce can shape their entire future—and that means every parent has the power to either wound or heal through effective co-parenting.

That’s why I speak, write, and advocate the way I do. I am a lawyer, yes. An author, yes. A media guest, yes. But more than that, I am a mum who has stood where so many others are standing. And if my story and my work can help even one parent learn how to co-parent better and help one child feel safer, then that’s the legacy I want to leave."
